Our Professional Coaching Staff

The Santa Barbara Swim Club is proud to use the Professional Coaching and Management Services of RaceCraft Inc. RaceCraft is owned and operated by John Dussliere, our Head Coach. All RaceCraft Coaches have passed background checks by both law enforcement and a private service. In addition, they are all certified USA Swimming Member Coaches. For safety, the staff holds current certifications in CPR for the professional rescuer, Lifeguarding, First Aid for the professional rescuer, and safety training for swim coaches. As professionals, they are all members of the American Swimming Coaches Association(ASCA).

Head Coach John Dussliere |
Coach John was most recently on the 2008 USA Olympic Team coaching staff, and currently serves as Chairman of the USA Swimming Club Development Committee, Chair of the Senior Swimming Committee for Southern California Swimming. As a coach, he began in Moline Illinois with the Blue Marlins. He then went on to spend six years with the Los Altos-Mountain View Aquatic Club while volunteering at Stanford University where he was a part of five NCAA Division 1 Championship Teams. In 1998, he moved on to The Mission Viejo Nadadores where he was the associate Head Coach along side Coach Bill Rose. While there, he was also director of coach and parent education.
On deck, he has coached dozens of High School All-Americans, Junior, Senior, and Olympic Trials qualifiers. Now in Santa Barbara for just three years as the Head Coach; John has already produced the first ever USA Olympic Marathon Swimmer, 3 USA Swimming National Team members, 8 Junior National qualifiers, 6 Senior National Qualifiers, and Two National Champions. This past April, Coach John was the keynote speaker at the Australian Swim Coaches conference in Gold Coast, Brisbane, Australia.
John leads a professionally certified coaching staff that delivers the best possible swim instruction and youth leadership in Santa Barbara.
Coach John also holds a license as a certified Swim-America program director. In 2006, John received the James E. “Doc” Counsilman Award for creative coaching at the ASCA Clinic. John is also a member of the World Coaches Association and attended their board meeting in Melbourne, Australia in 2007.
John is the owner and President of RaceCraft Inc. in Santa Barbara California. RaceCraft is a corporation that holds an exclusive, long term contract to provide coaching and management services to the Santa Barbara Swim Club. John is Single and resides in Santa Barbara. |
JJ Jones

Coach JJ grew up in Hemet, California where he swam for the Hemet Valley Dolphins from the time he was eight years old until leaving for college. He swam in college at U.C. Santa Cruz where he was conference finalist in the 500 free two years in a row. After graduation from U.C. Santa Cruz in 1998 with a B.A. in History, he helped coach the swim team for five years. As the assistant swim coach for U.C. Santa Cruz JJ coached the distance group and the 400 I.M.ers; out of this group, seven All-American swims were produced. While coaching for the University JJ also coached for the U.S.A. swim team in the area, Cabrillo Threshers. At Cabrillo the junior group and the pre-senior group were his primary focus. While coaching the college students and the age group swimmers Coach JJ also coached for Santa Cruz Masters. Coach JJ moved to Santa Barbara in 2003 and is the Advanced Age Group Coach at the UCSB/Goleta site as well as the morning Masters coach at Los Banos. Coach JJ has coached the SCS Zone and NACC teams for the last three years.
Most recently, JJ was appointed to coach at the 2007 Western Zone Select Camp. All these levels of swimming have taught JJ a lot about coaching the sport and about life in general. Coach JJ enjoys reading and watching movies in his spare time and would like to see how far his coaching can take him. Coach JJ lives in Isla Vista with his wife Sarah, a Doctoral Candidate at UCSB and member of SBSC Masters.

Coach Jessica began swimming as an age grouper with Industry Hills and Rose Bowl Aquatics. Once at Bonita High School she was the team captain for two years and set many school records. Coach Jessica then attended University of La Verne where she earned her Bachelor's Degree and Elementary Teaching Credential. While at ULV, she was elected women's team captain for two years and set school records in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 1000 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, and was a member of the record holding 800 freestyle relay.
After college, she begain teaching elementary school in the Compton Unified School District, then moved to the Baldwin Park Unified School District. While teaching in Baldwin Park, Jessica began coaching with the Claremont Club swim team. She coached beginning swimmers, and more advanced junior high and high school swimmers who were able to qualify for Age Group Championships, Junior Olympics, Southern California Sectionals, and CIF.
Currently, Coach Jessica is a 4th grade teacher at La Patera Elementary School in Goleta. She is in charge of the before school tutoring for under privledge students, and serves on many school committees including the Principal Advisory Committee. At SBSC, Jessica helps coach the Advance Age Group swimmers. She enjoys seeing her swimmers improve their times and become better individuals through their experiences with SBSC |
